Used Car of the Day: 2009 Audi R8

I try not to the run the same make back-to-back in this feature, but sometimes I see two good choices in a row that happen to share the same badge. So it is with yesterday's Audi TT and today's 2009 Audi R8.

This one has V8 power and the six-speed manual transmission. There are about 48K miles on this one -- and it's a rebuild title, with the full rebuilt having been featured on YouTube.

There's a long list of mods that include a carbon steering wheel, a TopSpeed exhaust, K&N filters, CarPlay, and more.

The seller says it runs, shifts, and drives well, and the air conditioning works.

If this intrigues you, you can find this one for sale in Pennsylvania for $59,000. Click here for more.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Car may have salvage title due to being totaled because of the propensity of the frame to crack. I did see one on YT being rebuilt for that very reason. Seems like a lot of coin for a salvage...even as cool a car as an R8.

This one and another one I see on the same site (sold a couple of years ago) say "rear wheel drive conversion." I suppose it knocks off a few pounds, but it certainly would not be what I would want in a car like this. If I was going to get an Audi super-car, it would be because it was all wheel drive, so as to be more able to put the power down, and be usable in wet as well as dry weather. I guess that just shows that I am not the audience for this.
