GMC Starts Delivery of the Sierra EV Edition 1

You may have seen a few Chevy Silverado EVs on the streets by now, but its sibling has been noticeably absent. It has been almost two years since the GMC Sierra EV was announced, but buyers are only just now starting to receive their orders. The most expensive Denali Edition 1 version of the Ultium-based pickup is landing first, with more variants coming next year.


The Edition 1 gets two electric motors with a combined 754 horsepower and 785 pounds of torque. Cheaper models due in 2025 include AT4 and Elevation trims, which will get less power and shorter driving ranges. GMC quotes a 440-mile driving range for the Edition 1 and a peak charging speed of 350 kW. Towing lands at a healthy 10,000 pounds, though the range will be significantly impacted at anywhere near that figure.


As a more upscale cousin to the Silverado, the Sierra EV borrows some features from the GMC Hummer EV. It gets four-wheel steering that enables the brand’s “CrabWalk” feature, and adaptive air suspension is standard. Like the Silverado, the truck gets a Multi-Pro midgate and a large frunk. GM’s Super Cruise is available.

Pricing for the new Sierra EV isn’t cheap. The Edition 1 starts at just shy of $100,000, but that could be a value when you consider that the similarly-priced Tesla Cybertruck is short on range and has been falling apart in new owners’ hands.

    The GMC Sierra EV is on my shortlist to replace my GMC Sierra 1500. I will need a price cut, some bug fixes over the Silverado EV WT4, and supercharger access to seal the deal, though.
  • Namesakeone It should be a name that evoques the wild west, that emphasizes the go-anywhere nature of how an SUV should be used. Something like a wild animal, maybe something like a horse. I've got it! How about . . . Mustang! Oh, wait. They already did that, didn't they?

  • Jeff Carlos Travares wants to cut costs by 1/3. I don't see Chrysler or Dodge surviving too much longer especially since they are being literally starved for product. The success of the new Charger could extend Dodge a few more years but a failure might be a quick end to Dodge. I could see Stellantis moving more manufacturing for Jeep and Ram to Mexico which I believe will eventually be the only surviving brands of the old Chrysler. As for the Durango if it continues it will not be for too many more years it is an outdated product that I doubt will be redesigned especially when Jeep has a comparable product. Stellantis needs to address the high dealer inventory level by giving better incentives and low interest rates to clear excessive inventory.
