We're going back to the 1970s today with this Swede wagon -- a 1973 Volvo 1800ES.

The seller says this one has been well-maintained. It has the four-speed manual transmission and just under 130K on it.

It has some new OEM parts here and there, as well as upgraded Bilstein shocks.

It does need a new A/C unit and radio.

The seller says it's already in pretty good daily-driving condition but also could be a candidate for a more complete restoration. Click here to see more about this California-based car. The asking price is $24,000.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

I saw a few on the road as kid in Europe during mid 70's. I always kind of liked them except for the rear fins and the stunted horizontal spear which should either have gone all the way or been deleted entirely. Front end was a bit dated already by then but it could pass on one-off type car that didnt really fit a segment. You could say the 1800ES is where GM got the idea for the Vega roofline (along with Reliant Scimitar). Not as cool as a Jensen Interceptor but probably a more dependable car better suited to most European cities. I would have 2-tonned it in black & silver.
