QOTD: Is Toyota's Century Plan A Good One?

Will Toyota's plan to make the Century a flagship brand work?

Or is it destined to fall?

I have no idea -- but I am curious as to how Lexus gets handled, especially since most luxury intenders will be looking at Lexus, not Century. The latter is likely to be too exclusive for most buyers, if we're reading the plan correctly.

Also, as an aside, no UCOTD today, the feature got 86'd to make room for other content. And today's list wasn't very good. It should return Monday.

OK, back to the Century. What do you think? Sound off below.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

No, I don't think we need more premium-luxury brands. This seems like a distraction for Toyota and a corporate smack at Lexus.

It would probably be a better plan if a really great company like Honda or Subaru did it.
