QOTD: How Is The Iran War Affecting Your Automotive Purchases?

Tim Healey

Tariffs. High fuel prices from the war in Iran. High sticker prices caused by a raft of factors -- prices that were high before tariffs. It's not a pretty picture out there for car buyers and car owners.

If you're in the market for a new or used car, how are you adapting to this environment? Same question for those of you who aren't car shopping but do drive on a regular basis. For example, are high gas prices changing your driving habits?

Please stow the politics on this one -- some of this is a direct result of President Trump's policies, some of it is not, and some of it is arguable. But that's besides the point. I am not asking who to blame, but rather, how you're dealing with it.

And, quite frankly, it's getting nasty in the comments again and more than a few of you are flirting with the banhammer. I do read the comments, and the lack of civility disturbs me. I've been diligent about deleting those comments that break rules, but I can't catch them all. Nor can Corey. So please, play nice.

With that said, you know what to do.

Sound off below.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Bought an RX plug last January and then an ES300h in August haven't been more thankful for the purchases. We use the RX more often on its battery alone and in 10K miles, have only filled its tank 3 times in 15 months, not including the full tank from the dealer.
