Ford Pushed the Release of Electric Truck and Van Models Back - Again
Ford came out of the gates with an aggressive electrification plan, but it has since tempered its enthusiasm. The most recent sign of that shift is another delay of Ford’s planned next-generation electric truck and van, both of which were just moved back to 2028.
Ford’s new electric full-size pickup truck, named the T3, was originally planned for 2025 before moving to 2026. It’s now been pushed back to 2028, along with a next-generation electric van to replace the current E-Transit. The automaker confirmed the news in a comment to Automotive News, saying: “F-150 Lightning, America’s best-selling electric truck, and E-Transit continue to meet today’s customer needs. We remain focused on delivering our Ford+ plan and will be nimble in adjusting our product launch timing to meet market needs and customer demand while targeting improved profitability.”
The Blue Oval said it would shift its focus to developing a lower-cost EV platform that would form the base of a small electric pickup in 2027. CEO Jim Farley said the company would give more details on its plans at an event on August 11 at the Louisville Assembly Plant. Farley said the automaker would focus its product offerings to deliver more affordable hybrids and electrified models, and noted that Ford’s commercial business would be an important part of the shift.

They are pushing back EVs because they are not selling well and they can't make money on them because they cost too much. DUH
Ford is taking a step back at this point. That's smart. The current political and cultural environment of anti-environmental, global warming loving, right wing nuts is definitely not going to help electric vehicles gain a foothold of any kind.
In this environment, as I sit here looking out over a beautiful lake that's 10 degrees warmer than it was when I was a kid, I am dismayed by how short sited our society is. Get that quarterly profit up. Dump more carbon into the air, support more oil drilling and consumption, let the fires burn in the west and Canada. Who cares that every time the wind comes out of the west or north I can't see more than 3 miles down that lake... Whatever, as long as nobody buys an electric vehicle because my neighbor hates them. Why does he hate them? Cause he watches FauxNews and gets his news from Facebook, if he gets any at all.
We are doomed.
Most recommended maintenance is a ripoff. A new ic vehicle should go 100 to 200k with little more than oil changes and replacing expendablels. It's questionable if ev's are cheaper to run or better for the environment. So there is no real motivation to buy an ev as the market reflects. Why would a company that alreadyl lost billions on the first generation be in a hurry to lose more ?
