Used Car Of The Day: 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Today's UCOTD is an extended-range electric that became a political football. In other words, a 2013 Chevrolet Volt.

There's not a ton of ad copy here, though the seller does tell us that there are 184,000 miles on the clock. The car is also apparently in excellent condition, with everything working. It still returns 30 miles of EV-only range per full charge.

If this one interests you, you can find it for just $2,000 in New York -- on Long Island, to be precise.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

  • I had a first gen Volt. It was a good car, if a bit cramped with me being 6'3". My commute at the time was a whopping 7 miles so the EV aspect worked out. I will say though, the wife and I took it on a road trip to the mountains of Tennessee and I forgot to keep it in mountain mode. When that battery got depleted, those mountain climbs were rough.

@Paul Since I can't reply directly (hmm?) I say this, I have probably forgotten more about automobiles then you have ever learned. The Volt was a niche vehicle suitable for about 0.1% of the market of users. Chevy sold an average of 17K or so a year in the 9 year run, making it an after thought. about 14 -17 million new cars are sold in America each year. There are documented cases where customers were quoted a battery replacement for a Volt of 30,000.00 dollars stick that in your Dunning-Kruger pipe and smoke it. Once again trying to make the 0.1% look relevant it would seem.

Oldsaltydog, if you 'Reply' to your own comment (up there) with the 'Reply' button it will show up in the message thread in context. (Paul won't get a notification of course, but Paul would see it in context if he rolls back through.)

When you type in the 'Share your car truths here!' box with the 'Comment' button it starts a new thread.

  • Oberkanone Dacia makes product line of affordable vehicles. An entire product line. One vehicle is not the answer for all needs. Dacia does affordable well.
  • YaMoBeThere This is an egregiously bad AI generated article, the middle of the article is repeated twice... but yea go ahead and nitpick about my comment pointing that out
  • Slavuta Is this Ok if I use OEM all weather floor mats? Yes, the ones that came with 2011 Mazda3 were not good. But the ones in 2017 Mazda6 are excellent. BTW, in that picture, Grand Cherokee on Kumho tires. Is this also an advert or just coincidence?
  • Bar170111344 "GM was on track to spend $31.7 billion on compliance technology through 2031."I'll just mention, that expenditure would have gone into research and development, and that would have driven U.S. manufacturing innovation. On the industrial side, R&D is necessary for U.S. manufacturers to remain competitive in the world. It's absolutely no surprise China is running rings around us. The prospective $ savings GM is looking forward to hasn't impressed the stock market. Year-to-date return of -5.65%. -7.05% in the last month. PE 20:1, inflated by the falling share price. Not to be insulting by any stretch, but it has never been like Mary Barra to get out ahead of anything. She's not an innovator and not a risk taker. She's a good engineer.Honestly - in that industry, which I worked in for decades, being regulated is like having a security blanket. You can be mediocre, blame it on regulation, and still make a buck. And with the federal government now digging an even deeper moat around GM and Ford, it's clearly suppressing American innovation and excellence.
