Today we have another Benz for you -- a 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300SD.

Our seller says it runs and drives well and lists recent work that has been done -- and what work needs to be done. They speak positively of the California smog system.

The car does seem to be in pretty good shape, but also needing a fair bit of small work.

You can find this one outside of Nashville for $3,200 obo. Click here for more.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

One of the best sedan bodies ever built and for some reason someone thought it was a good idea to put a smoky, clattery five-cylinder diesel where the V8 should go.

CAFE - but buyers could still opt for a V8. Since this is a pre-facelift model the only V8 Americans got was the 380SEL, which was smog-detuned and probably made less power than a carbureted Euro base model 280S. Grey-market imports of 500SE/500SELs were very popular.

I actually owned a Euro gasoline 1985 300SE W126 for a few years with 188-horsepower and the 4-speed auto. It was actually pretty quick and fuel efficient for its size and weight.

Those 300SDL Diesels were excellent cruisers for those long US highways. Once you got up to speed those things could cruise all day and return excellent fuel economy. This one looks a bit rough on the outside and inside. Odometer failures at high mileages are common on W123s and W126s (as well as R107s and C107s).

I am concerned about Matthew Guy -- he is in reruns now?

  • Master Baiter "We are bringing the Apple Music app to GM vehicles in a way that takes full advantage of our industry-leading audio capabilities" LOL. Yeah, when I think of industry-leading audio, I think of General Motors.
  • Master Baiter I agree with EBFlex: It's exhausting being right all the time.
  • Aja8888 Ford dealer's new inventory around here is gigantic. They are advertising wanting to buy your used car. The Ford showroom at the nearby dealer has a slightly used Corvette in it! NO KIDDING!
  • ToolGuy™ F-150 Lightning is under $30K now on cargurus dot com. More than enough range for my around-the-house truck. Plus that sweet sweet Pro Power Onboard. If I needed to do a job inside a convention center (no fumes), or on a movie set (low noise)? Hmmm...
  • FreedMike Well, that sucks.
