Mercedes Still Charged by EVs, Rolls Out All-New Electric C-Class
The world’s automakers aren’t entirely on the same page when it comes to electric vehicles, as evidenced by Mercedes-Benz veiling an all-new, all-electric 2027 C-Class.
The entry point for the brand — and one of its best sellers — the C-Class gives Mercedes a chance to show buyers what an electric midsize luxury sedan can be. Perhaps more importantly it comes in a package many are familiar with, albeit with an interest new wrapper.
"The all-new electric C‑Class is redefining the mid-size segment for electric vehicles. Customers will get exactly what they expect from this new version of the beloved model: the perfect blend of performance, comfort, dynamics, and intelligence,” said Ola Källenius, chairman of the Board of Management, Mercedes‑Benz Group AG, in a statement.
“On top of that, it is the most powerful and sportiest C‑Class we've ever built, offering pure driving pleasure and outstanding real-world range – all while being the perfect sanctuary for our customer."
While range and performance are often the first things EV buyers are interested in, Mercedes buyers are going to really want to see just what this new model looks like because the German automaker’s given it a substantial update.
That change is most noticeable with the grille, which is now more squarish and larger than on previous C-Class models. It also features four thick crossbars. The new look is impossible to miss. The change to the grille allows for larger air vents on the bottom corners of the front fascia for improved cooling.
The new look carries over to the back of the vehicle with the rear tail lights forming a bar across the trunk, although the middle of that “bar” doesn’t illuminate, but it’s all done in black to give the back end some definition. It’s clear that this new all-electric C-Class design takes some of its styling from the now-defunct EQ lineup, but it is also clearly a C-Class.
The new electric C-Class claims a range of 762 km or 473 miles using Europe’s WLTP standard, which is known to be a bit generous. In real world driving, the number is likely to hover closer to 400 miles, which is still impressive for a compact sedan. An EPA-reported range hasn’t been determined yet.
Charging the new 800-volt technology and the new 94-kW battery enable up to 325 kilometers, or about 200 miles, of range to be charged in as little as 10 minutes. DC fast charging up to 330 kW is possible at 800-volt charging stations. A DC converter is fitted standard to also enable charging at 400-volt charging stations. The powertrain puts out 482 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.
If you’re sitting at a light — or preferably in a track setting under controlled conditions — racing from zero to 60 mph takes just 3.9 seconds and the top speed is an electronically limited 130 mph, officials noted.
Mercedes’ Hyperscreen lives on in the new C-Class electric. The 39.1-inch touchscreen is the largest ever offered in a C-Class and likely in any midsize sedan. For those who don’t want nothing but glass in their sedans, the Superscreen is also available, which breaks up the panoramic feel into three smaller sections.
Unsurprisingly, AI enjoys a role in the new model as it combines with the car’s MBUX infotainment system to provide a leading edge system. It combines ChatGPT4o, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini, using the best parts of each depending upon the situation or use case. The MBUX Virtual Assistant can handle complex commands, multi-turn conversations, and even has short-term memory. Of course, “Hey Mercedes” starts up your new in-car best friend.
The technological excellence is matched by the materials used in the cabin. The C-Class EV offers an optional “twisted diamond” design for its Nappa leather surfaces to “emphasize its handcrafted character.” This design is available exclusively with optional sports seats in new Tartufo Brown Nappa leather.
The AMG Line leather seats feature moccasin stitching on the side bolsters. With the AMG Line Sport Seat Package, the door beltlines and area beneath the windshield are finished in an elegant Nappa leather-look MB-Tex with fine decorative stitching. Mercedes also offers a Vegan Package, which includes all soft-touch surface materials in the vehicle’s cabin.
Mercedes-Benz offers quite a bit, but pricing for the model wasn’t revealed, and it will come closer to the vehicle’s arrival in the first half of next year.

- Vid169489471 The technology exists today to produce a variable color temperature (kelvin) LED lamp. It can vary from 2700k that soft orange look to 6500k the bright daylight with the bluish tint.Since everything in a late model car is computer controlled, it would be an easy task to write a few lines of code that enables your vehicle to not only dim down from hi to low beam but to shift color temp down to the 2700k range for oncoming traffic, then back up to 5000k once oncoming traffic has passed. For the operator it would be automatic and seamless. For older cars they could be retrofitted with LEDs that are 2700k on low beam and 5000k on hi beam. As far as standards, there could be a lumens max, and a minimum. Several States already have minimum lumen standards going back to the old incandescent bulbs. Why not update these to national standards.
- Jam169859557 More regulation is needed for ALL vehicle lighting systems.

The lighting that is most blinding are the rapidly flashing red, blue and amber lights on emergency vehicles. The lights themselves are blinding, flashing so rapidly that it's impossible for even the sharpest eyes to adjust. What's worse, is the nature of the emergency requires a careful view of the area surrounding the emergency vehicle. There is something going on that needs to be seen. More flashing lights is not the solution.[/*]
Brighter headlights need to be regulated. The tall riding vehicles do not need headlights positioned so high that they blind drivers in lower riding vehicles. And those heasdlights need to be aimed properly. When I first started driving my 2020 Subaru Outback, many drivers would flash their lights, hoping I would dim my lights. This stopped after I performed am easy adjustment that tilted the beam lower. Late model Subaru headlamps are designed with a sharp cutoff that project less glare above the hood line. When the headlights are properly aimed, other drivers are not blinded by the beam.[/*]
Customized light assemblies make it more difficult to see the marker lights (tail lamps, turn signals and side marker lamps) that have been tinted. There are many municiple codes that prohibit this tinting, but these laws are seldom enforced.[/*]
Solutions: Tight controls on emergency vehicle lighting. In trying to make these vehicles more visible, a dangerous side effect is reducing the ability of drivers to see the surrounding perils.Headlight design regulations that reduce the height of the headlight assemblies. Just because a pickup truck has a hood that sits 4 feet abouve the pavement, it does not mean the headlights need to be so high. Owneres should maintain proper adjustments to their vehicle headlights.Establish and enforce regulation requiring a illumination standard be followed.
- Stl170698708 as someone who hates big government, and their interference;but you can add me to the list of people that are blinded by the lights.unfortunately "the poop is out of the horse and no way is it going back in"They have had 5 years to make lights bigger, badder and brighter because in the vehicle work it is go big or go home!Trucks are the worst because so many people use them to express their dominance and that is big, big, big $$ both at the Original Purchase and in the Aftermarket world. If, we are so lucky to get some good government regulation on this it will also take some very good Court enforcement to get the aftermarket people with fines and lawsuits.Much like the EPA did with the Diesel Tuner Industry that felt emission regulations didn't apply to them. This is from someone that owns said pickup truck with the same bright headlights, but i only use the truck when I have too and always turn off the Fog lights when driving in traffic.
- Art65765977 I saw a porsche 911 with the most amazing headlights from behind approaching the Sunshine skyway in Florida. The pattern was 108 degrees across sweeping the road like a broom. My brother and I were amazed. I don't know what it looked like from the front but i am sure it was better than American cars

To improve MB styling, they should hire Chris Bangle.
It has very good seats.
The rest of it is not as ugly as the new Smart concept.
That's about as nice as one can be about this thing.
