Why Leno's Law Failed

Today's TTAC podcast goes deep on what Leno's Law is, and why it's failed, at least to this point.

Leno's Law is stalled in California, and we chat with SEMA's Christian Robinson about why -- and what the next steps are.

We also chat about NASCAR at Bristol and oil filters with TTAC contributor Matthew Guy.

You can find us wherever you get your podcasts or by clicking  here. If you like what you hear, please leave a review!

We thank Christian and Matthew for their time, and Matt Posky for editing. Most of all, we thank you for listening!

We’ll see you next time!

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

I had no idea that you couldn't just use a slider to hop through a podcast.

So I listened to this one in its entirety to hear about Leno's Law. Alas, of talk about Leno's Law came there none. But I did learn to smear a little oil on the filter threads when installing a new oil filter. *Gasp* Had I but known that all these decades.

So now I know to never again play a podcast.

I listened to this yesterday. Some interesting (and detailed) discussion of how California evaluated SB712.

  • MaintenanceCosts One of the cleaner-looking 200+k mile cars I've seen. Still fills me with fear and loathing.
  • MaintenanceCosts Looking forward to the ad-free Superb Owl.(Also some kind of football game which my hometown team is favored to win, despite having Joe Lunchpail as their quarterback.)
  • Foaming Solvent Rivian, specifically the soon-to-be-available R2.
  • 1995 SC From any analysis I've seen so far the big winner here is Tesla, which is ironic if that comes to pass lol
  • Foaming Solvent "Governor Carney."As Eric Hoffer said, "Rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength."
