Way back in the last century, the world was facing a multitude of problems, and in order to inspire confidence in Americans, then-President Franklin Delano Roosevelt — a big car fan! — told the country, “The only thing to fear is fear itself.”

Fast forward nearly 100 years, U.S. automakers are facing, well, a multitude of problems. However, no statesman is stepping up to assuage the worries of top executives at car companies with a similar statement. In fact, many are pointing to a rising number of Chinese automakers making in-roads around world that are now lining up at the gates.

While Americans knew who the hordes at the gates were in the 1930s, they are less familiar with the Chinese auto companies looking to be among the first to get a foothold in their homeland. Aside from the well-known entities, such as BYD, Geely, and MG, what companies are the top dogs in China? Tell us how many you can name — and then name them! Let’s see how much — and how many — you know. We’ll follow up with a story and a comprehensive list to see how you did.

One problem is its hard to tell which ones are manufacturers and which are brands; I mean how many just EV brands are under Geely? The ones you hear about in the US for one reason or another are like Leapmotor, Xiaomi, Xpeng, Li, all the Great Wall brands, etc.

I know of BYD. Because it's basically an explody blowtorch. Park one of those in my garage? No way!

  • KwikShiftPro4X On Kijiji this would be $3000 as-is, where-is. Vintage! Rare! I knows whats I got!
  • SCE to AUX KBB says that the ATP of new vehicles was $50,526 in September. As a group, buyers afforded that much, but we know that some (up to 6%) will default. Deducting 6% from that ATP, we get $47,494.So anything lower than that is 'more affordable', and anything higher than that is 'less affordable'.
  • Tom170698702 It's time to stop recycling old articles. This one is almost 3 months old.
  • Oberkanone Dacia makes product line of affordable vehicles. An entire product line. One vehicle is not the answer for all needs. Dacia does affordable well.
  • YaMoBeThere This is an egregiously bad AI generated article, the middle of the article is repeated twice... but yea go ahead and nitpick about my comment pointing that out
