GM Recalls Six Crossovers Over Bad Seat Welds
Six is not a typo. General Motors has issued a safety recall covering exactly six 2026 model-year crossovers, three Chevy Traverse units, and three GMC Acadia units, over front seat back frames that may not have been properly welded.
According to GM safety recall N262576830, the defect is a bad weld at the point where the recliner pivot mechanism joins the driver or front passenger seat frame. A seat frame that was not welded correctly could fail to perform as intended in a crash. GM says that could raise the injury risk for whoever is sitting in it.
The split is tidy: three vehicles need a driver-side frame, and the remaining three need one on the passenger side. Geographically, four of the affected crossovers are in the United States, and two are in Canada.
Dealers will swap in a new front seat back frame. The repair is free, no matter how old the vehicle is, how many miles it has, or who owns it. GM lists the specific VINs in its bulletin and tells dealers to verify each vehicle through the Investigate Vehicle History system before touching anything.
Until the repair is done, the affected vehicles are frozen in place. GM's bulletin directs dealers to hold them in inventory and bars them from delivering, trading, releasing to auction, or using the vehicles for demonstration. The stop applies across the board, covering new and used units, certified pre-owned stock, courtesy vehicles, and dealer shuttles alike.
Owners in the United States and Canada will hear from GM directly. Anyone who suspects their Traverse or Acadia might be among the six can call a GM dealer to find out if their VIN is on the list and schedule the repair.
A six-vehicle recall is about as small as these things get, and the tight scope suggests GM caught a specific run of bad welds rather than a systemic assembly problem. For the handful of owners involved, the frame swap is free and the fix is straightforward. For everyone else, it is a reminder that even a recall affecting a rounding error of the fleet still generates a federal paper trail.

- Jpolicke It's so exciting to watch our two largest automakers competing for top honors! Go for it GM, there's still time to catch Ford.
- Golden2husky It was always about the bean counters. Any part with mechanical connections - accelerator, shifter, parking brake for example, all require a person to connect one end of the control to another part on the car. That connection also has to be designed so that no further adjustment is needed once connected. Hence all those items being electrical now...same guy connecting systems to the harness now just has a few more. While I'm ok with the gas and parking brake, I prefer a traditional shifter. I'm still not thrilled with all the touch stuff in my Honda. Frankly, I choose to take the old Acura unless we need the extra room...

Ford can only dream of such a number.
They've issued a "hold" order.
People will be safe from bad welds, their V8's and transmissions will keep the rest off the roads.
