Jaguar's $160K Type 01 Finally Goes on Sale In 2027
Two years after the Type 00 concept detonated across social media in Miami, Jaguar has brought the production car, predictably badged Type 01, to a reveal in New York. The concept's debut got buried under the outrage over the company tossing aside nearly 90 years of heritage. Now there's an actual car to argue about.
Order books stay shut until early 2027, and Jaguar says first deliveries won't arrive until the back half of that year, assuming the schedule doesn't slip again. It already has, by more than a year, blamed on a collapsing EV market and a devastating cyberattack at JLR. Jaguar lists pricing at around £120,000 in the U.K., and about $160,000 stateside. Both figures exclude tariffs and taxes.
Here's the twist for anyone who assumed Jaguar was being bold by keeping the concept's extreme look: the production car came first. The Type 00 was developed from it. The Type 01 had those proportions before the storm broke.
The bluff upright nose, the extended flat hood, the low roof, and the glassless tailgate all carry over. The 23-inch wheels, with 21s offered as a cost-cutting option, take up more than half the height of a car that's 204 inches long and 57.5 inches low. Jaguar's "luxury gap" between the front axle and the A-pillar takes up 17 percent of the length, exactly as it does on the E-Type. A brass-effect "fender ingot" runs the gap, laser-engraved with the leaper.
Jaguar calls the rear three-quarter pressing "the impossible panel," with aluminum shaped across five planes and three feature lines meeting at a single point. Rear lamps hide behind louvers; a pop-up spoiler and swiveling grille vanes stay out of the way until needed.
The tri-motor setup makes 1,016 horsepower and 1,006 lb-ft, which Jaguar bills as the most powerful road car it has built, with 62 mph in 3.2 seconds, a figure Jaguar claims. Jaguar skipped the sub-two-second theatrics. Jaguar rates the 118kWh battery at a 400-mile EPA range, and says the 850V architecture adds 200 miles in 13 minutes.
The company estimates weight at 6,000 pounds, split evenly across the axles. JLR says its own customer data, drawn from more than 900,000 vehicles across 51 countries, shows the car's range covers 99.7 percent of journeys.

- Oberkanone Dacia makes product line of affordable vehicles. An entire product line. One vehicle is not the answer for all needs. Dacia does affordable well.
- YaMoBeThere This is an egregiously bad AI generated article, the middle of the article is repeated twice... but yea go ahead and nitpick about my comment pointing that out
- Slavuta Is this Ok if I use OEM all weather floor mats? Yes, the ones that came with 2011 Mazda3 were not good. But the ones in 2017 Mazda6 are excellent. BTW, in that picture, Grand Cherokee on Kumho tires. Is this also an advert or just coincidence?
- Bar170111344 "GM was on track to spend $31.7 billion on compliance technology through 2031."I'll just mention, that expenditure would have gone into research and development, and that would have driven U.S. manufacturing innovation. On the industrial side, R&D is necessary for U.S. manufacturers to remain competitive in the world. It's absolutely no surprise China is running rings around us. The prospective $ savings GM is looking forward to hasn't impressed the stock market. Year-to-date return of -5.65%. -7.05% in the last month. PE 20:1, inflated by the falling share price. Not to be insulting by any stretch, but it has never been like Mary Barra to get out ahead of anything. She's not an innovator and not a risk taker. She's a good engineer.Honestly - in that industry, which I worked in for decades, being regulated is like having a security blanket. You can be mediocre, blame it on regulation, and still make a buck. And with the federal government now digging an even deeper moat around GM and Ford, it's clearly suppressing American innovation and excellence.

It's come to this! 🙄
Question for all the people hating on the new Jaguar: do you think you're the intended audience? Given your income, your lifestyle and current car ownership situation, do you truly think Jaguar designed this for you?
Not to be rude, but you don't see a lot of people trading in 2011 Elantras, 2012 Altimas and 2007 Ram pickups at the JLR dealer.
