QOTD: What Do You Want To See From The 2026 Detroit Auto Show?
What if an auto show had no product-launch press conferences?
That is almost the case with the 2026 North American International Auto Show, aka the 2026 Detroit Auto Show. There are some press events, and at least one new product is getting unveiled tonight -- check back here at 7:15 Eastern -- but the show is light on debuts.
Still, there may be stuff to learn from speaking engagements involving Pete Buttigieg and Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer.
So I ask of you, what do you want to see? Sound off below.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

- MaintenanceCosts One of the cleaner-looking 200+k mile cars I've seen. Still fills me with fear and loathing.
- MaintenanceCosts Looking forward to the ad-free Superb Owl.(Also some kind of football game which my hometown team is favored to win, despite having Joe Lunchpail as their quarterback.)
- Foaming Solvent Rivian, specifically the soon-to-be-available R2.
- 1995 SC From any analysis I've seen so far the big winner here is Tesla, which is ironic if that comes to pass lol
- Foaming Solvent "Governor Carney."As Eric Hoffer said, "Rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength."

V8's lots of V8's
I would like to see a choice of basic transportation options at affordable prices. I know, it’s crazy, but they used to do it, before a multitude of regulations, many of them sketchy or counter-productive, made it impossible. You wont see it at the auto show today, but maybe automakers should talk to the new guy in Washington, who seems to want to reduce the size of government and its regulations.
