Volkswagen Continues Tease of 2027 Atlas Ahead of New York Debut
Volkswagen plans to roll out the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas next month at the New York International Auto Show, but for those who simply cannot wait that long, it keeps offering little peeks at the new model.
“It will feature strong, muscular proportions and sleeker exterior surfacing,” VW says in a short release accompanying the teaser pic.
Today they offered up a closeup of the rear taillight and part of the liftgate — in a darkened studio. Right away its clear the back of the Atlas is getting some changes. The new taillights are still part of a light bar that wraps around the corner, but it appears to be slimmer and has a new checkerboard pattern to break up the lights.
Examination of previously release teaser pics from winter testing in Quebec show the 2027 model will be more evolution than revolution. Considering the previous updates for 2024 really moved the Atlas forward, subtle changes are likely best for now.
However, those who have driven the prototype say it gets a more powerful version of its EA888 Evo5 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder under the hood right now. A detuned version of the same engine powers the current Tiguan, which puts out 268 horsepower.

- Andarris Here in the Toronto area I haven't seen a 2006-2012 with intact rocker pannels for over two years now. I presume everywhere around the Great Lakes is the same ? They were super cheap dhring the first two years of the pandemic - could get one with less than 85K for around $6500 certified or a little higher mileage for $5000. Glad I skipped it, even in 2021 some of the 10's &11's were displaying corosion like you'd see on a 7 year older Impala, Camry or Accord. Also the mid-model switch to EPS made me balk at the few clean ones I found.
- Kjhkjlhkjhkljh kljhjkhjklhkjh I do not ever have delays. I only fly out of PDX or EUG to LAS or OAK and OGG then back .. have never been delayed in the last ?30-ish? trips to vegas/disneyland/maui/cruise ship vacations.... EUG has contract tsa so we never have any TSA delays. unsure which airports have PRIVATE contract TSA that is UNAFFECTED by the deadlock that i HOPE NEVER EVER END.

- Michael S6 The 3 Amigos better hope that the oil spike is short lived as 4-5 dollar a gallon gas would put a damper on their cash cows especially "Ford's strategic shift" of killing off the escape/Lincoln cousin. Most other automakers have a full line of vehicles with much better full economy. GM is sucking air and its Cadillac devision is mostly EV and geriatric line up of ICE cars and SUV's that were supposed to be phased out this year. The expensive gas may push shoppers toward EV but GM's horrible EV reliability is a barrier.
- Tane94 I read the GM press release about first quarter sales 2026 vs 2025 and Buick is getting its butt kicked:Buick Total* 41,654 61,822 -32.6 The future is bleak for Buick.

Rented one of the current ones for a week. It's ok. Seats not great for long distances. Really good space in back as it's a brick on wheels. Looks good for what it is. Tech is not great. it's a turbo 4 with meh mileage pushing a big brick.
At 50k, I'd rather buy a used last gen GLE350 and pocket 25-30k. Does the same thing, much better long distance seating, better stereo, roughly the same space.
The first gen Atlas with the VR6 was a good ride. We had one for a while. Plenty of space, not terrible mileage, and the engine was a dream. Then they stupidly cancelled the 6 and now it only comes with a turbo 4? Sorry but the Atlas is a tank of an SUV and is WAY too much vehicle for a stupid 4 cylinder.
