The 2026 Detroit Auto Show, formerly known as the North American International Auto Show, was light on vehicle debuts this week -- but there was still plenty to talk about.

TTAC contributor Matthew Guy and I discuss what we saw at the show, and we also bring in John Vincent from U.S. News and World Report to get his perspective.

We also discuss the new NASCAR playoff format and cabin air filters for Stuff We Use.

You can find us wherever you get your podcasts or by clicking  here. If you like what you hear, please leave a review!

We thank Matthew and John for their time and Matt Posky for editing. Most of all, we thank you for listening!

We'll see you next time!

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Politicians don't have thoughts, although they like to pretend to. Pete's genuine interest in transportation is limited only to the fact that it happened to be the cabinet seat he was gifted for backing out of the primary at a timely moment in 2020. He has no other background in the subject whatsoever. If by some stroke of disaster he (or anyone else like that) is president again soon, we know exactly what they'll do - we've had 16 years of it already.
