Recall Alert: 2022-2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid, 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid
Today we have a very small recall involving the Ford Maverick Hybrid and Ford Escape Hybrid.
Ford is recalling 87 hybrid vehicles, including certain 2022–2024 Maverick Hybrid and 2020 Escape Hybrid models, due to a software issue in the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module. The problem can cause the vehicle to shift into neutral unexpectedly, leading to a loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash.
To fix the issue, dealers will update the software at no cost to owners. Notification letters are expected to be mailed on January 30, 2026, and affected VINs will be available on NHTSA’s website starting January 15, 2026. Owners can contact Ford customer service for more information, and the recall expands on two earlier Ford recalls related to the same issue.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.
