1986 Ford F-250 - History of Ford's 1st Diesel F-Series Truck From AutoMoments
When Ford and International Harvester got together, it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
While the buying public fell in love with this truck's powertrain, it's a shame that some of its other virtues have been lost in the chaos of the 21st century. Sometimes a humble work truck is all you need.

What you lose out in power you gain in insane simplicity and reliability, What are you using it for? Hotshot?? Get a Banks turbo. Anything that does go wrong with it, you can fix in your driveway or roadside. It'll never blow a head gasket, spin a bearing or bend a rod under normal abuse and neglect. Remember, every time you avoid a diesel repair shop, it's $3,000 back in your pocket minimum. They have to lift off the cab to do anything on modern diesels. In the 9 years I owned an early 7.3, the only times it lost power and stalled out, it had air in the fuel line. So I would bleed the out the air and patch it when I got home. No big.
