Used Car of the Day: 1993 Volkswagen Corrado SLC

I've been trying to stay away from Volkswagens for a few days after a few of you pointed out that this feature has been a bit too VW-heavy lately, but I couldn't resist this 1993 Volkswagen Corrado SLC. I mean, it's a Corrado.

This one is mostly stock but has some upgrades and replaced parts, including a new water pump, new timing chains, thermostat, new clutch, new flywheel, and new windshield.

There's a new Blaupunkt stereo and new OBD2 harness and ECU, along with a race-tune chip.

Apparently the car runs and drives well and everything, save for the cruise control, works. The paint, however, is showing its age and peeling.

If this sort of thing interests you, you can find it outside of Denver for $12,000.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Always had a fondness towards the Corrado. It was unique, inside and out. With lines that still work 30 years later.

These were cool and quirky desirable... 30 years ago. Now it's just a old VW with a ton of miles ready to break your hear and budget. I'd recommend Hard Pass.
  • Ajla IMO, something like this really should be naturally-aspirated.
