QOTD: What's The Worst Road Rage You've Witnessed?

A week or so ago, I was on the freeway and I saw a road-rage battle playing out in real time.

I wish I could've filmed the incident, but there was obviously no way to do so safely, at least not without a dash cam. I didn't see what started it, but someone in a bro-dozer pickup must've pissed off someone in an old, beat-up Mercedes. The Merc continued to speed up, get in front of the truck, and then brake-check him. The two vehicles eventually came to a full stop just up the road from me and I thought it might get worse -- but the truck owner drove around and the situation seemed defused.

Believe it or not, I haven't seen a ton of crazy road-rage incidents, at least not beyond the occasional one-finger salute. But maybe you have?

If so, let's hear your stories.

You know what to do: Sound off below.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

It wasn't a road rage but once, while in Boston, I was turning right on green while pedestrians did not have "safe to walk" signal. 2 ladies were about to cross. They acted like they are queens on that street and were about to cross. While I cut them off, safely. Watching faces of these spoiled Boston dwellers was priceless. I think, they said something, so technically - they did the road rage. I only used my right of way. Pedestrians and cyclists in Boston are obnoxious... drivers too.

With me as the victim: I worked at a Las Vegas casino as a security guard, and I was coming home from work, wearing my gun, as always. There was an older orange Chevy Nova in front of me. Two guys were in it, and they were jumping around like they were being shocked by hidden electrodes in the seats. We stopped at a light, and when it turned green, they didn't move, so I gave them a short tap on the horn. They took off like I had thrown a grenade at them, and at the next light, they got out of the car, with aluminum baseball bats, yelling, "We're gonna kill you!". I pulled my gun, rolled the driver's window down, and said, "GET BACK IN YOUR CAR!". The driver said, "He's got a fXXXXXX cannon!", and they took off. A while later, the cops showed up at my house, asking about me "brandishing a revolver", etc. I explained what actually happened, and they said, "why should we believe you over them?", apparently not considering they seemed to be coked up, at least. I said, "Well, if it happened the way they claimed, how come I know what colors the baseball bats are that I would imagine are still in the car?". The one cop was talking to the two idiots while the other one looked and sure enough, there were two baseball bats behind the seats, a blue and silver one, and an orange and silver one. The cops let them fill out reports and sign them, and then arrested them for making a false report. They got fined $500, and probation. Most entertaining:A guy in a newer C6 Corvette cut off a guy in a '70's Caddy. They yelled a lot, and the Caddy driver got out at a light, and punched the Vette driver in the face. The Vette driver yelled something, and at the next intersection, they turned right and went into a doctor's office parking lot. I pulled into the Church's Chicken lot next door, and it was on. The Vette driver got the first couple of good shots in, but soon was tired out, and the Caddy guy got rolling. The Vette driver, whose nose was messed up and broken, gave up, and the Caddy guy took off. The Toledo PD showed up about 30 seconds later. I got called by the Caddy owner's lawyer a couple of months later, and after I told him his client threw the first punch, he didn't like that and I never heard from him again. I always wondered what the final outcome of that deal was.
  • ToolGuy Doesn't matter, EVs don't work, even if they do I mean did they won't I mean wouldn't have the range to drive to the track. Plus the world is running out of electricity (and there is no way to make more). The panel gaps on EVs are aerodynamically problematic, especially Porsche. No one can afford EVs. There is no place (literally -no- place) to charge, and even if you do I mean could it will I mean would crash the U.S. electrical grid and there is no way to restart it, ever. Drivers will grow old and die waiting for the vehicle to charge. EV racing will never benefit the environment the way that ICE racing does and has and will. The batteries cost more than the vehicle and that cost goes up every minute. All electricity is dirty and nasty and not wholesome like petroleum. EVs are slow (as in the opposite of quick) and the point of a drag race is quick. I can't hear well because of ICE and what happens when a silent EV runs over me at the track? It is a good thing that the EV thing ended when it did and will never return. I for one am relieved.
  • MaintenanceCosts It at least looks more like a Cadillac and less like a Traverse than the XT6. I'm a shopper in this segment and would give it a test drive, which I wouldn't bother with for the XT6.

  • AZFelix A calendar search shows Saturday May 14th could have recently been in 2005, 2011, 2016, and 2022. The phone number now shows for Coys Wheel in Kaysville, UT.
  • ToolGuy Tim said climate change is real, so I don't think this will ever apply to me.
