Ineos Brings Grenadier Concepts to Goodwood

It appears Ineos is treating Goodwood in a similar fashion as Jeep treats Moab: A platform for showing concept trucks to the adoring masses in its own backyard.

Not there’s anything wrong with that. Events like Goodwood are an ideal place for a homegrown manufacturer to strut its stuff – so why not take a page from the Book of Jeep and trot out several concept vehicles in an environment where an adoring fanbase is already present?

Also similar to Jeep with its Easter Safari concepts, these Grenadier variants are delightfully all over the map and presented in a riot of colors. Off the hop are a pair of machines with portal axles, a technology used in serious off-roaders to tuck Expensive Bits up out of the way and increase ground clearance without jacking the entire vehicle sky high. Both the Grenadier Quartermaster and Station Wagon models appeared so equipped, with ground clearance reportedly cresting 20 inches. Apparently there is at least one of these already roaming around Germany as part of a fire brigade. We’ll note emergency responders around here make do with a Regan-era Chevy truck.

Elsewhere we find a short-bed Quartermaster pickup (a ‘Shortermaster’, if you will), a Safari-ized full-length Quartermaster truck, and a Grenadier with FiA approval. The latter is all set for an appearance at the 2025 World Rally-Raid Championship and would look great in official competition. Power in this one is cranked to 348 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque, increases of about 70 each.

Speaking of power, one of the concepts has traded the BMW-sourced straight-six for a 6.2L V8 courtesy of General Motors. This thing likely sounds tremendous as it belts out 425 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque, numbers which should look roughly familiar to anyone who has shopped for a half-ton Chevy in recent years.

The short truck is terrible. The tire blocks all rear visibility while making the tiny bed very tricky to access. And the wheels on it look like they're from 2002. Other than that, I really like the idea of the Grenadier and it seems like a good effort. I wouldn't buy one because of the tractor recirculating ball steering, which makes it terrible in everyday use.

    You mean Reagan-era in story?
  • Bd2 did they have to try so hard to style it like the supra?
  • Tassos Dodge embracing the freedom to choose your own energy source is exactly what America needs in 2024.
  • Funky D I've retrofitted both of my current rides with a CarPlay capable head unit. It's nice to be able to play tunes from my phone (with contains all 72 GB of my music library), stream from the Sirius XM or one of the radio apps, all while using the Apple Maps to avoid serious traffic backups. If you are going to have online connectivity, I'd rather it go through a company that is not trying to harvest your data so it can sell to the highest bidder.
  • Zerofoo If you like gin - James Gin Asian Parsnip, Navy Strength is quite good.
  • Steve Biro I’ll wait for the two-door version with the turbo DOHC inline six. And then probably conclude that even the base version is too expensive for me.
