Used Car of the Day: 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer
Remember, the point of this feature is to find interesting cars, not necessarily ones that are in great shape. And I feel that, for some of you at least, mediocre metal that needs some wrenchin' is just what y'all like.
That's the case with this 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer.
This LT trim with 163K miles actually looks pretty good in pictures -- though, it being a GM product from the Aughts, I can smell that interior from here -- but it needs a transmission. Oh, and it has two-wheel drive.
Outside of the transmission, it appears the engine runs well and has been well-maintained. There are also some upgrades, such as the rear diff, Bilstein shocks, and BF Goodrich rubber.
There's also Pioneer auto and tinted windows.
If this interests you, can you can find it in California for $1,500. Click here for more.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

- MaintenanceCosts One of the cleaner-looking 200+k mile cars I've seen. Still fills me with fear and loathing.
- MaintenanceCosts Looking forward to the ad-free Superb Owl.(Also some kind of football game which my hometown team is favored to win, despite having Joe Lunchpail as their quarterback.)
- Foaming Solvent Rivian, specifically the soon-to-be-available R2.
- 1995 SC From any analysis I've seen so far the big winner here is Tesla, which is ironic if that comes to pass lol
- Foaming Solvent "Governor Carney."As Eric Hoffer said, "Rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength."

2WD is a deal killer here in New England but out in commiefornia, $1500 is a hell of a deal. Get a reman transmission put in with a warranty for a few grand and you have a vehicle that can go another couple hundred thousand miles, provided you actually do the routine maintenance on that new transmission.
How does driving this differ from all of the RWD sedans and station wagons we drove for 4+ decades. And that we often bemoan are no longer available?
For this price a vehicle with decent interior room, and affordable parts availability.
You could do much worse.
