QOTD: What Apple CarPlay Features Would You Like?

We took some time this morning to show you what new Apple CarPlay features await iOS users as iOS 18 launches.

I am wondering, though, what features would you like to see Apple add (or Android Auto, for you Droid users out there)?

I, for one, would love it if I could set things up so that if I am sitting in a drive-thru and decide to scroll social media, the radio doesn't get overtaken by an autoplay video.

I'd also love it if the battery charge icon doesn't get covered by the "Driving" icon, as happens in some cars I test.

Maybe a safety override that would allow my passenger to punch directions into the keyboard when using maps, so I don't get locked out while the car is motion and I end up screaming at Siri.

Beyond that, I am hard-pressed to think of other features I'd like, though I bet I could noodle up a few more if spent an hour or two on it.

What say you?

Sound off below.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

"I'd also love it if the battery charge icon doesn't get covered..." ... Latest event showed us that this is least of our worries. The worry should be now is that your battery does not explode into your ear

"Why has “all powerful” russia not conquered ”weak” Ukraine?" US supplied HIMARS and NATO personnel to train Ukrainian troops on use of the NATO supplied weapons systems. Russia isn't fighting Ukraine; Russia is fighting a proxy war with NATO. The war would be long over if US/NATO was not involved. The western military industrial complex will keep this war going so long as everyone keeps getting paid.

Technical things aside, people don't understand cultural specifics. For this one need to read literature from 19th century to early 20th century, where Ukrainian culture has been described. This is culture of superstition, cargo cult, irrational believes, and treason. In 1917-20, 2 separate Ukrainian irrational believes lead to 2 separate occupations - by Germans and Polish. Both cases were presented as "independent" Ukraine. In 1941, Poland based Ukrainians irrationally decided that Germans will give them independent Ukraine and joined nazis. Note, these were comparatively small group. Most were on soviet side. In 1991 they (some of them) again jumped on the next independence train only to become under full control of US. They irrationally believed and some believe today that someone is awaiting them in EU and NATO. There no such plans because they already do what NATO wants without any responsibility for it. They believe that they are part of the west, that west cares about them. Many are disillusioned today but not all. Ukrainians committed multiple treason to their friends and masters. Then constantly revolted against Polish, Mazepa back-stabbed Peter the Great, they constantly switched sides with Crimean Tatars, they soldout soviets - very same members of Ukrainian communist party. They soldout their Eastern Slavic union so many times. They are so bad at managing the state that in 18th century, what is known as Ukraine today was turned into Ruina - this is how it was called. They killed each other until about 1/3 of them remained alive. And in the last 10 years they simply destroyed their history, replaced it with fake, made up propaganda, a total repeat of Nazi germany, which relied heavily on myths about aryans, etc.
  • ToolGuy Perhaps my vehicles need more stickers.
  • ToolGuy "I have way more into the car than I’m selling it for." • Yes, you are the only individual in history in this situation.
  • Sobhuza Trooper Best reason the US introduction has been delayed that I've heard is that VW is still working to introduce new, catastrophic failures. GPS positioning will be set to have these occur when the driver is furthest from maintenance support.
  • Sobhuza Trooper The potential below-cost dumping of Mexican assembled Chinese electric vehicles was precisely what Donald Trump warned about on March 16..--QUOTEChina now is building a couple of massive plants where they’re going to build the cars in Mexico and think, they think, that they’re going to sell those cars into the United States with no tax at the border. Let me tell you something to China, if you’re listening President Xi, and you and I are friends, but he understands the way I deal. Those big monster car manufacturing plants that you’re building in Mexico right now, and you think you’re going to get that, you’re going to not hire Americans, and you’re going to sell the cars to us? No. We’re going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you’re not going to be able to sell those cars. If I get elected. Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath, for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country. That’ll be the least of it. But they’re not going to sell those cars."UNQUOTE---Democrats decided misquoting him would be an excellent way to make him into the evil fascist monster their base has been brainwashed into believing is true.
