QOTD: What Apple CarPlay Features Would You Like?

We took some time this morning to show you what new Apple CarPlay features await iOS users as iOS 18 launches.

I am wondering, though, what features would you like to see Apple add (or Android Auto, for you Droid users out there)?

I, for one, would love it if I could set things up so that if I am sitting in a drive-thru and decide to scroll social media, the radio doesn't get overtaken by an autoplay video.

I'd also love it if the battery charge icon doesn't get covered by the "Driving" icon, as happens in some cars I test.

Maybe a safety override that would allow my passenger to punch directions into the keyboard when using maps, so I don't get locked out while the car is motion and I end up screaming at Siri.

Beyond that, I am hard-pressed to think of other features I'd like, though I bet I could noodle up a few more if spent an hour or two on it.

What say you?

Sound off below.

Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

This might be app specific but when clicking on SiriusXM I wish the default was the channel list not the song I'm listening to now. Basically I want it to be easier to scan / flip thru the channels. With iOS18 Apple is finally letting user customize the UI / home screen and this needs to move over to CarPlay ASAP. As is its really locked down display wise. However overall CarPlay is 10X better then the built in nav and voice commands in my Hyundai. Its great to have a list of places I've searched (history) on my iPhone that sync immediately via CarPlay. Just this week I was traveling for work so my hotel, local restaurants and client location (that I had browsed previously) popped up in my rental via CarPlay. No need to search again or look up the addresses using the car's OEM nav. When it was time to return to the airport my calendar already knew that was likely my destination so it was the first choice on the map. Stuff like this is what makes the integration and syncing with your phone so good. Plus Siri has gotten very good at speech to text. I was able to text my wife with my status and estimate arrival time all hands free. I didn't have to learn anything new via different buttons or UI on my rental, it just worked thru CarPlay like being in my personal car at home.

I'd like the weather app to be available.
  • Lorenzo If it's over 30 years old and over 80k miles, and not a classic, it's a parts car, worth no more than 20% of original price.
  • Dusterdude No mileage noted on a 33 year old car means likely well north of 300k + miles , along with issues noted , should equate to an ask price of less than $3k
  • Ajla IMO, something like this really should be naturally-aspirated.
  • Kjhkjlhkjhkljh kljhjkhjklhkjh Unless they are solid state batteries you BAN THEM. I like EVs... but EVs like to burn ... for days
  • Kjhkjlhkjhkljh kljhjkhjklhkjh uh .. it looks like a VW golf got the mumps
