QOTD: Are You Feeling Retro Fatigue?

Automakers love to appeal to our nostalgia. Sometimes this is done via a paint color, or trim graphics, or an Easter egg. Sometimes an entire vehicle is designed to look "retro."

Personally, I've had mixed feelings about this -- sometimes these design choices work, sometimes it feels like a cynical marketing ploy.

Today's news about Ford releasing a new retro graphics package for the Bronco, and the response of some of you in the comments, has me wondering about your tolerance for retro design.

Personally, I don't mind it unless it's clearly a cynical cash grab. But some of you seem tired of it. On the other hand, I bet some of you can't get enough.

So, I want to hear from you.

Sound off below.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Retro as overall design? Sure. It's worked to varying degrees as a success. Retro as a sticker package? I'm not a fan, but if they can find enough suckers to pay extra dough for $20 worth of vinyl, good on them.

These are just trucks. Let's see some retro styled cars! I'd like a down-sized 1957 Plymouth Fury, please. Heck, a '57 Chevy Bel Air clone with modern drive train would sell like hotcakes!
