Summary

The transcript reviews the 2026 Genesis G70 2.5T, the smallest sedan in the Genesis lineup, and focuses heavily on its combination of sporty driving characteristics and luxury features.

Powertrain and Performance

    • The G70 2.5T uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four producing 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
    • A more powerful 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 is also available, and the reviewer prefers its additional performance, though the 2.5T is described as more than adequate.
    • The car offers Sport and Sport+ modes and delivers athletic handling, a smooth and quiet ride, and strong overall driving dynamics.
    • All-wheel drive is standard in Canada, while U.S. buyers can get rear-wheel-drive versions on several trims.
    • The reviewer considers Genesis' ride and driving refinement among the brand's strongest luxury attributes.

Exterior and Styling

    • The test vehicle is finished in Tasman Blue, a color discontinued in the U.S. for 2026 but still available in Canada.
    • Genesis' 19-inch wheels receive particular praise for their attractive design.
    • A power trunk is another feature the reviewer considers indicative of a luxury vehicle.

Interior and Luxury Features

The reviewer strongly rejects the idea that Genesis is simply an expensive Hyundai, pointing to the G70's extensive luxury equipment:

    • Quilted Nappa leather throughout the cabin
    • Quilted door panels
    • Suede headliner
    • Heated rear seats
    • 16-way power front seats
    • Passenger-seat controls accessible from the rear seat and driver's seat
    • Leather-covered dashboard and steering wheel
    • Heated and ventilated front seats
    • Dual-zone climate control
    • 360-degree camera
    • Turn-signal camera displays that show the area alongside the vehicle when signaling

The interior is described as particularly comfortable and well executed, with Genesis earning praise for its attention to materials and detailing.

The One Luxury Shortcoming

The reviewer's major complaint is the lack of wireless Apple CarPlay. The G70 uses wired CarPlay, which the reviewer considers surprisingly un-luxurious in a vehicle at this price point. It's described as a minor inconvenience rather than a deal breaker, but one that becomes especially noticeable after becoming accustomed to wireless connectivity.

Pricing and Verdict

The Prestige AWD is the top trim for the 2.5T in the Canadian lineup. The test vehicle costs approximately $61,000 Canadian, or about $53,000 U.S.

Overall, the reviewer is highly positive about the G70. The 2.5T provides enough performance while avoiding the roughly $10,000-plus premium for the more powerful engine. Combined with its excellent handling, quiet ride, upscale interior and extensive luxury equipment, the G70 is presented as a compelling luxury sport sedan, with wired Apple CarPlay being its most notable annoyance.

    Engine feels underpowered

300 hp isn't really underpowered for a compact sedan.

At that price, Genesis can keep them. Way too expensive for what it is. Great car at $40k. It's a turbo 4. No reason to pay a premium for that engine in any car.

While I think the BMW's turbo 4 and transmission are among the best in the business I can't say I see a huge advantage when it comes to interior design. If anything the BMW's interior is unacceptably austere at this price point.

  • KwikShiftPro4X On Kijiji this would be $3000 as-is, where-is. Vintage! Rare! I knows whats I got!
  • SCE to AUX KBB says that the ATP of new vehicles was $50,526 in September. As a group, buyers afforded that much, but we know that some (up to 6%) will default. Deducting 6% from that ATP, we get $47,494.So anything lower than that is 'more affordable', and anything higher than that is 'less affordable'.
