The Refreshed 2025 Volkswagen Taos Has a Reasonable Starting Price

The Volkswagen Taos is getting an update for 2025 that brings fresh styling, new tech, and a more powerful engine. Today, we learned pricing for the automaker’s smallest crossover, and it remains a relatively value-forward pick in a hyper-competitive segment. The new Taos is expected to land on dealers’ lots in late 2024.


The 2025 Taos starts at $24,995 for the base S trim, and AWD pushes the price to $26,695. Stepping up to the SE Trim takes the price to $27,895 with front-wheel drive and $29,595 with AWD. VW offers an SE Black trim for 2025, which costs $30,145 and $31,845, respectively, and the top SEL trim comes standard with AWD for $34,695. All of those prices are subject to a $1,425 destination charge.


VW refreshed the Taos’ styling for the 2025 model year, giving it a reshaped front bumper and updated grille with an available LED light bar. LED projector headlights became standard for all trims, and the taillights feature a connecting light bar with an illuminated VW logo. The SUV also picked up three new paint colors and a couple of new wheel designs.

A new dash design houses the standard eight-inch floating infotainment display, and VW said it added more insulation to reduce cabin noise levels. Two-tone upholstery is available for the S trim, while the SE trims get synthetic leather and cloth. The top SEL trim gets leather, with either a solid dark blue or two-tone black/grey color scheme.


The turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine got a power boost for 2025, climbing from 158 to 174 horsepower. It also has improved piston rings and fuel injectors, a revised turbo housing, and a more robust intercooler.

    Random thoughts:1- the germans have nice colors and great color combos on convertibles.2- I will NEVER buy a car with vinyl seats. Ever.3- If you pick the illuminated logo option, you move yourself to the wanker category.

      I also had #2, no vinyl seats ever as one of my purchasing rules. That recently changed when the vehicle we acquired required 'optioning up' by many thousands of dollars to get a true 'leather' seat and only offered a cloth seat in the base model. Which I had to forego, as the base model did not have a fold down armrest/cupholders in the rear seat or rear heat//airconditioning vents in the console.

    You get the base trim of this for $26,420 and I'll get a 2013 Highlander Limited for $12,000 and we'll see who has a nicer audio system. Later we can compare torque to curb weight. Later than that we will compare longevity.

  • Arthur Dailey Agree with above that it is amazing how the seat seems to be in such good condition. Wonder if it is a replacement? The phot of the GM horizontal 'clacking' speedo brings back lots of memories. After a certain amount of wear and tear, at low speeds the needle would 'clack' back and forth. Seems that the odometer has probably been around twice based on the location of the digit on the far left. Personally I am not a big fan of the GM 305 engine, as it seemed to be a compromise between durability and performance and therefore wasn't 'great' at either.
