Used Car of the Day: 1979 Ford Bronco

Today we bring you a fixer-upper in this 1979 Ford Bronco.

Remember, the point of this feature is to show INTERESTING used cars, not ones that are in perfect shape. So keep that in mind before you go nuts in the comments.

This one appears to have seen better days, but our seller says that it runs well, at least. It has a 460 cubic-inch mill and an automatic transmission. The mileage is unknown.

Sure, you can find a trailer-queen full-size Bronco out there, but maybe you can restore this one and feel pride.

Click here if you'd like to see more, including a video walkaround.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Definitely rough, but clean up the interior, wash the dirt off the widows and go through the chassis and drivetrain with a magnifying glass. Assuming no rust, maybe 6-7k in repairs and you've got a helluva woods machine. A $1000 paint job would probably add double the value. Nothing wrong with a 460 as long as it was properly installed and in decent shape and tune. My brother had the next generation Bronco with a 351 and it never got better than 12 mpg, and it was s l o w. Thor or a similar generation Blazer with the top off are some of the most fun trucks to bomb around in.

Save yourself the agony of wasting TIME and MONEY restoring this used vehicle. You are better off buying this amazing and more interesting Kübelwagen replica built on the chasiss of the PEOPLE'S CAR, A vw Beetle! bringatrailer.com/listing/1944-volkswagen-kubelwagen-tribute/

@LouBC: I don't know. This sounds like the perfect vehicle for an epic cross Europe AutoBahn > road > off road > mud adventure. 🤣 But seriously, this is obviously written by a parody account.
  • Lorenzo If it's over 30 years old and over 80k miles, and not a classic, it's a parts car, worth no more than 20% of original price.
  • Dusterdude No mileage noted on a 33 year old car means likely well north of 300k + miles , along with issues noted , should equate to an ask price of less than $3k
  • Ajla IMO, something like this really should be naturally-aspirated.
  • Kjhkjlhkjhkljh kljhjkhjklhkjh Unless they are solid state batteries you BAN THEM. I like EVs... but EVs like to burn ... for days
