QOTD: Should There Be More Sedans?

Just a bit ago I opined that GM/Chevy are being, uh, not very smart by killing the Chevrolet Malibu.
I extended that out to Ford and Stellantis, as well. While I don't think every OEM needs a sedan -- the Subaru Legacy is unlikely to be missed -- I think the Detroit Three do.
So, reader, I ask of you -- am I wrong?
This is another chance to call me a dummy in the comments below -- or perhaps you agree with me.
Is there enough demand to support larger segments for mid-size, compact, and even large sedans?
Or is it just a crossover world and I'm now an old guy* tilting at windmills and yelling at clouds?
*I am not that old. But old enough.
So, what say you?
Sound off below.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Maybe someone needs to offer just sedans in brown with manual transmissions for under $20k.
The realities of the market have spoken: with a little help of a lingering recession (in that most families need a car for every purpose, rather than affording multiple cars as once was true), and with a little advertising-prodding from the manufacturers, the SUV and crossover have, in turn, replaced the station wagon, the minivan, and now the sedan. (Or maybe the minivan replaced the station wagon. Whatever.) I still like cars, but the only votes that count are the ones that a.) come to new-car dealerships, and b.) come with money attached. Period.
